FRESHWATER AND SALTWATER WETLANDS FOR TREATMENT OF STORMWATER AND SEWAGE ON THE GOLD COAST AND REDLAND BAY


South-East Queensland is one of Australia’s fastest-growing areas and has the challenge of managing growth while protecting significant natural waterway assets and environmental values. This presentation will highlight case studies on the Gold Coast and Redland Bay, where stormwater treatment measures are being used to manage this issue, by offsetting point source sewage loads.

STORMWATER QUEENSLAND AWARDS ARE OPEN!


The annual Stormwater Queensland awards are open for submissions! This year, we have made a few changes to make it even easier and more enticing, including:

  • Introducing a new category for Early Stormwater Professional of the Year (up to 10 years of experience by the due date).
  • Submissions open to either a written response or an interview option. No need to write if you prefer speaking.
  • An email template you can send to your clients, to get their buy-in and approval for submissions.

Submissions are now open and due no later than 5th August, 2022, so don’t delay!  You can submit your nomination as soon as you are ready. Good Luck!

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS AND OUR WATERWAYS


For those of us with young children, it’s school holidays again! Now the flood water has subsided, it’s a great opportunity to get out into nature and use our urban waterways for entertainment, as well as relaxation. CHEMICAL FROM TYRES LINKED TO MASS SALMON DEATH IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FOUND IN QLD WATERWAY


University of Queensland researchers have presented a paper in the Environmental Science and Technology Journal, on the concentrations of tyre additive chemicals and tyre wear particles found in Cubberla Creek in South-East Queensland. The tyre particles are one of the largest sources of microplastics and provide a pathway for toxic chemicals to enter waterways from stormwater. The Guardian highlighted the issue in a recent article.
